Don’t Ignore the Tongue
Brushing the teeth alone can’t effectively remove plaque that forms on the surface of the tongue. Plaque that collects on the tongue can harbor food particles and lead to bad breath, tooth decay or cavities, and other oral health problems. It’s important to brush daily, but don’t forget to clean the tongue too with a soft bristle toothbrush and gently brush in small circles.
Use a Toothpaste with Fluoride
When it comes to choosing toothpaste, make sure it contains fluoride. Fluoride, which is a mineral, has been a mainstay in oral health for years. The substance, when present in proper amounts, helps fight germs and creates a protective barrier for the teeth.
Dentists recommend using a blue-colored toothpaste that contains 0.243% sodium fluoride or stannous fluoride for a regular clean that fights plaque and remineralizes the teeth.
Don’t Neglect Flossing
It’s a common misconception that if one brushes their teeth well and regularly, flossing isn’t necessary. However, this isn’t true. Flossing has numerous benefits – not only for keeping the teeth and gums healthy but for overall health as well.
By flossing once daily, one can maintain oral health, including reducing the number of cavities that can develop; it also helps lower instances of periodontal disease.
